Jenny Thompson, author of the HSI e-alert brought the following disturbing and under reported information about Gardasil to my attention.
This fast-tracked by the FDA, 3 stage vaccine is said to protect women from the human papillomavirus (HPV), one of the primary causes of cervical cancer.
Gardasil was approved by the FDA in June of 2006. Merck, the parent company immediately set about lobbying to make Gardasil mandatory for school girls nationwide.
Mandatory? Big pharma has some mighty big bhalls pushing mandatory vaccination with a drug whose safety record is not proven and whose approval process is questionable. (See this article for more information)
Now might be a good time to remind readers that Merck and Co. are also famous for a weenie little mistake in safety reporting called Vioxx.
More than 3 months ago this bit of information hit the AP,
According to the British Medical Journal, three deaths have been linked to Gardasil. These were reported to the FDA’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, (VAERS), along with 1600 other reports of adverse reactions. Where is the media?
According to a statement made by the NVIC, Nat’l Vaccine Information Center, “Clinical trial investigators dismissed most of the 102 Gardasil and placebo associated serious adverse events, including 17 deaths, that occurred in the clinical trials as unrelated.”
And this, “There is too little long term safety and efficacy data, especially in young girls, and too little labeling information on contraindications for the CDC to recommend Gardasil for universal use, which is a signal for states to mandate it,” said Fisher. “Nobody at Merck, the CDC or FDA know if the injection of Gardasil into all pre-teen girls — especially simultaneously with hepatitis B vaccine — will make some of them more likely to develop arthritis or other inflammatory autoimmune and brain disorders as teenagers and adults.”
At this point in time I think one girl is too many to volunteer into the real time Gardasil safety and long term efficacy trial.
According to Merck, sales of Gardasil netted $235 million in its first six months of availability.
What say you?
