In the newest issue of Spirituality and Health Magazine there is a short piece on this topic by author Anna Lappe. My mind has been broadened by her point that “most of the debate stays narrowly focused on our individual bodies at a particular moment.”
What else besides my body and soul quality should I be concerned about? Her list is not long but is vitally important when considering the choice to buy organic or not and the magazine is worth picking up if you don’t already subscribe.
Here are a couple of the chilling facts she provides: “that pesticides sprayed on our fields poison one in seven farm workers every year, and 800 to 1,000 farmers and farm workers die annually from pesticide exposure, that farmers have higher rates of certain cancers and higher rates of birth defects;” she reports.
I am thankful for this soul stirring reporting.
What will I now choose instead for my table?
